Full Rights
You will get full rights in a nurses’ union
LPNs will receive full rights
You will become BCNU members with all constitutional rights and privileges.
You will gain access to all of BCNU’s professional services.
LPNs will not lose pensions, benefits or seniority
Your current pension, benefits and seniority come with you to BCNU.
We’ll start planning to improve them right away.
Your union dues will go down
You switch to BCNU’s membership dues: 2% of basic pay.
You won’t pay dues on overtime or premiums.
LPNs will have a voice on BCNU Council
6 new BCNU Council positions will be created for LPNs.
At Council LPNs will have a voice in all BCNU business and your issues will be clearly heard.
Future LPN representation will determined by a BCNU convention.
You will receive steward continuity
Currently elected LPN stewards will be invited to join BCNU’s steward team.
Better Contracts
BCNU will start improving your contracts & practice conditions
We will start your bargaining process
BCNU will start elections for an LPN bargaining committee.
100% of the committee will be LPNs – it will be elected only by LPNs.
Only the LPN committee can finalize a tentative agreement and recommend its acceptance.
BCNU will ask the government to move LPNs in the Nurses’ Bargaining Association. You will have stronger contracts by negotiating with RNs and RPNs.
BCNU will never accept pay cuts or roll backs for LPNs.
You will have access to our strike fund
In the unlikely event of a strike, LPNs will have access to strike pay from BCNU’s provincial fund.
You will receive fast-tracked settlements
BCNU will expedite settlement or arbitration of all outstanding LPN disputes.
We will help you solve WorkSafeBC and disability problems.

You will receive paid education
Your salary will be paid when you attend BCNU seminars, conferences and conventions.
You will receive career development
BCNU will start an education fund with 15% of LPNs’ union dues.
We will negotiate with the government to expand the LPN education fund.
The fund can be used for your continuing education or take courses towards a nursing degree.
You will have licensing support
Our LEAP Program will assist you with licensing challenges at CLPNBC and help facilitate your timely return to work.
Professional Team

You, RNs and RPNs will work together
LPNs, RNs and RPNs will be equal partners on committees developing nursing teams for quality patient care.
Together nurses will negotiate with the government for quality care and expanded career opportunities.

You can join BCNU caucuses such as Workers of Colour, LGBT, Workers of Disability, Men in Nursing & the Aboriginal Leadership Circle.

BCNU gives you a no-risk guarantee
LPNs will be able to change their minds
After two collective agreements, if irresolvable differences emerge between members, LPNs will be free to leave BCNU through a province wide secret-ballot referendum.
